RUSSIA IS MAKING A BREAK FOR THE DOOR HE WILL BE THE FIRST ONE ON MARS FUCK YOU BITCHES HE DOESN'T NEED A SPACE SUIT HIS HEART IS SAFE IN A BOTTLE HE IS A DEMON LONG DEAD WITH NOTHING ELSE TO LOSE.

[Latvia starts crying when Russia lets go of his shoulders and continues even after landing on the stairs. But then he realizes he is not falling forever and that he is not going to be stuck in a dusty, red planet. Nervously, he glances up at the entrance half expecting to see Russia's face. Slowly, he pushes himself up, wiping away at his tears as he did so.

With the fear of being stuck in a hole out of the way, new scary thoughts entered Latvia's mind because of the darkness. Like for instance, he survived the Land Whale on top of Mars but could he survive a different one down below the planet?]

M-Mister Russia will stay t-there, r-right? Just i-in case?

[It's a lucky thing Russia even heard Latvia's quivering voice. He kneels down, peeking through the top of the hole.

He smiles, attempting to be reassuring. Considering the fact that it's Russia, the effect is kinda lost.]

Of course. I will be right right! I would not leave you behind after I went through so much trouble to have you at my side again.

[He gulps nervously from the 'reassuring' smile before slowly making his way down the flight of steps. Keeping his eye out for Russia's heart as he went, and hoping it some how miraculously ended up nearby. The Baltic didn't want to travel the entire length of the stairs and wherever they were leading to.

Something occurred to him. If there were stairs. In a hole. On Mars. Then didn't that technically mean someone had been here before Korea, Russia and America?

After making it down all the way through the stairs, Latvia found Russia's heart on the last step. He hurried to it, to pick it up and get the fuck out of there but as he stood up from picking up the dusty organ he caught glimpse of what was down there. His eyes widened as he took a double look at it.

And promptly screamed. No now knew the answer to why there were stairs and the true answer to why Russia fought for to be the first person on Mars. He didn't want America to find out about the second Gulag he had hidden down beneath Mars because he WAS indeed the first person on Mars.]

[In this case, Russia wouldn't be sure if Latvia claiming that Russia was the first to Mars to be a good thing. Soviet though he may be, Stalin and the Purges were behind him. They would forever be in his mind, of course, but Khrushchev had ensured the labor camps weren't on his mind at the moment.

Which is why, when he hears the scream, Russia is quite confused.]

Latvia?

[Sigh, such a chore to have your "friends" rely on you for comfort and protection. But damn it, no one is allowed to pick on Latvia except for him! Russia gets on his hands and knees and tries to crawl down into the hole after Latvia.]

No worries, Latvia, I am coming!

[--or so he thought. His hips get stuck in the entrance. Cutting off his main source of light, he can barely see the shaky little figure at the bottom of the stairs.]

...Ah. Never mind. Are you alright, Latvia?

[He doesn't exactly realize that it is Russia blocking the exit and the light and not some sort of covering.]

DON'T SEND ME THERE! I-I'M SORRY! I'M SO SORRY FOR RUNNING A-AWAY AND H-HIDING AND L-LYING TO YOU! I T-THOUGHT ALL OF T-THIS WAS OVER!

[Nor is he paying attention to anything Russia was saying or asking. Instead he clings to the bottom of the stairs, holding Russia's heart delicately in his hands.]

I g-got your heart!

[He squints through tear filled eyes at Russia's heart in his hands. Yup. It's a heart. And it's a Russian heart because it feels so cold.]

I'll fix i-it when we g-get out of here! W-whatever America b-broke of it I'll fix it! I swear! Just d-don't lock me d-down here in your camp!

[The fact that Latvia is no longer speaking in tinytext has Russia a little worried. Not to mention he has no clue why Latvia what pleading to him to not lock him away. It's nice that he's so enthusiastically offering to help, though! Not to mention the apology to accompany it is a nice bonus too. In Russia's mind, all this amounts to Latvia appreciating Russia.

The screaming is still mildly confusing, though.]

It is alright, Latvia! I am not mad! You can come up, now.

[And then some of Latvia's yelling actually stick into his mind.]

Camp? What... sort of camp is down there, Latvia?

[Latvia, unaware that Russia is unaware of what the hell he is blabbering about, continues. Believing Russia to be playing stupid. HE'S TESTING LATVIA, LATVIA SOMEHOW FEELS THIS IS THE CASE. IT'S USUALLY THE CASE.]

Y-you know! Y-y-your camps! W-why else w-would you have sent me d-down here!? You k-know what I'm t-talking about!

[He pauses, takes one look at the labor camps in his hallucination and then up at Russia. Or at least where Russia should be. Latvia takes in a shaky breath and whispers.]

Y-you know... y-your labor camps o-on Mars! Y-you're really the first o-one on Mars, I-I know you are! You've know a-about Mars all along b-back in the USSR... when you run out of room in Siberia y-you send my p-people here! A-and now you're going to leave me i-in here! P-please don't l-leave my people or me here!

[AS REASONABLE OF A CONCLUSION THAT MAY BE, RUSSIA IS ACTUALLY BAFFLED THIS TIME AROUND. When he realizes what "camps" Latvia must be talking about, he's even more befuddled. Those days were behind him... right? He speaks slowly and deliberately, trying not to give away the (apprehension? worry?) confusion in his voice.]

I sent you down there retrieve my heart. There is no work camp down there. None that I have built. I have been rid of those for years.

[He tries not to think "hey, building one on Mars would've been a pretty cool idea".

It's still dark, but he can feel Latvia's eyes on him, and he imagines them wide and scared. Usually that is good news; this time, though, Russia actually feels slightly uncomfortable under the gaze. And maybe a little indignant that someone before him managed to build a gulag on Mars.]

I am not leaving you down there. I have already said this, haven't I? Now hurry and climb back up here.

B-but! There IS a work camp d-down here!

[Just how could Russia have missed the camp Latvia wondered. Let alone, a camp of his very own? He doesn't push the argument because of the tone in Russia's heart. And, with the heart held close to his chest, he slowly makes his way up the stairs. Turning around to watch his delusions, watching it grow smaller and smaller as he left it at the bottom of the stairs.

Latvia continued watching it, unaware of how close he was to Russia and runs face first into the taller nation. ACCIDENTALLY of course.]
